E-safety

Questions & Answers

What is E-safety?

E-Safety means being safe on the internet. It also means the safe use of technology in a way. On social media, many challenges may get your child hurt mentally or even physically! E-safety is often defined as the safe and responsible use of technology. This includes the use of the internet and also other means of communication using electronic media (e.g., text messages, gaming devices, email, etc.). In practice, e-safety is as much about behavior as it is electronic security.

Why is it important?

With the right e-safety knowledge, children can better understand the dangers of releasing personal information, as well as how to recognize unethical behaviors or prevent cyberbullying. The internet is a huge part of our lives. Whichever way you look at it, it has grown to influence every nook and cranny of our society and the way that our “children engage with information”. Our parents used to warn us about ‘stranger danger, now we teach our children the same lessons, but for a huge, ever-evolving environment. Our young people enjoy spending time on the internet and interacting with their friends and peers online, but this also means that cyberbullying and other online problems can be particularly hurtful.

How does E-safety work?

E-Safety can work in many different ways, Such as:

   -Apps

   -Websites

   -on Gmail

   -screen time

How do these apps work?

These apps tell you what they do on their devices. These apps can also limit what they see on Netflix and YouTube.

How do these Websites work?

On IOS and Android laptops, they might not have these apps that are on phones and tablets, iPad, etc., so there is a website that is just the same.

How does it work on Gmail?

Now there are these things where the child and the parent's email get linked, it gives the parent notification if someone logs into the email address, and for YouTube it only lets you watch kids tv programs.

How does it work on screen time?

For the on-screen time, you can add a passcode and set a time limit for your kids, phone, iPad, etc.

What is Hacking?

A security hacker is someone who explores methods for breaching defenses and exploiting weaknesses in a computer system or network.  Hacking is an attempt to exploit a computer system or a private network inside a computer. Simply put, it is unauthorized access to or control over computer network security systems. One can easily assume them to be intelligent and highly skilled in computers.
